Frequently Asked Questions
My child is interested in taking a class at Debut. When does it start?
Fall classes begin in late August and early September with registration starting in July. Spring classes begin in January with registration starting in December. You can find more info about spring and fall classes here.
Does Debut offer summer classes?
Yes! Registration for summer begins in March and classes run from late May to early August. Check out our page on summer classes.
Can you let me know when registration begins?
Sure! Check out our Contact Us page and we’ll add you to the mailing list.
How do I sign my child up for classes?
All of our registration is done online through a program called Jackrabbit. Returning students can log in to their account and new students can create one. If you have questions about which class is the best fit for your child, please contact us at debuttheatre@gmail.com or 970.224.5774 and we will make a recommendation based on their grade and experience level.
How long do classes last?
Classes are held for 15 weeks. The class will culminate in a final performance at the end of the semester.
My child is interested in taking a class, but they will have to miss several rehearsals. Is this ok?
Attendance is important! Theatre is a communal art. By registering for a class, the student is committing to attend every class and the show for the entire semester. Missing too many classes may result in being asked to take a semester off. However, we understand that students have school commitments and illnesses. Please notify the director in advance if a rehearsal will be missed.
My child is interested in taking a class, but they are a little too old/too young. Can I enroll them anyway?
Maybe. We always want to make sure that your child is engaged in the class and never bored or intimidated. Contact us and we can discuss which class would be best for them: debuttheatre@gmail.com or 970.224.5774.
What will my child need to bring to class every day?
Please make sure they have their script, a pencil, comfortable clothing and shoes, and a water bottle.
Will there be any homework?
Students are assigned tasks outside of class, such as drawing a poster or memorizing lines. When these are done on time, the entire cast benefits.
I might be a little late picking up my child from class. Is that OK?
Students must be picked up on time. You may be charged a $20 fee if instructors are routinely asked to stay longer than 15 minutes. Students cannot be left outside waiting. All students will be provided with a contact list for the students in their class and carpooling is strongly encouraged!
What happens if the weather is bad?
Debut follows Poudre School District regarding closure due to inclement weather. We do our best to make arrangements to make up rehearsals cancelled due to bad weather. If after school activities have been cancelled, we will not hold class. You will be notified via email and through our social media platforms.
Are Debut’s performances open to the public?
Absolutely! The Debut Players perform twice a year at the Lincoln Center Magnolia Theatre for three consecutive weekends. Other troupes have performances at the Lincoln Center, Debut’s Black Box Theatre, and a variety of other performance venues around Fort Collins at the end of their classes. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
