More Than a Stage: The Community Powering Debut Theatre

The new theatre is officially underway—and the transformation is already thrilling to watch. The old movie theatre chairs are gone, wallpaper has been ripped away, and walls have come tumbling down. Every day brings visible change. Before long, actors will be stepping onto a brand-new stage in a completely reimagined space, ready to bring stories to life in ways we’ve only imagined. And while what happens onstage is exciting, it’s just one part of a much bigger story.

Behind every Debut Theatre production is an incredible group of people working tirelessly to keep things moving forward. From instructors who once rehearsed in these very rooms to parents and alumni helping guide the organization into the future, Debut continues to be shaped by the people who show up, pitch in, and believe in it.

Debut is a place people return to. Many of our teachers began here as students, found their passion under these lights, and went on to explore new paths, often rooted in performance and the arts. And then, something special happened—they returned. They came back to teach, to mentor, and to pass the magic on to the next generation. Their connection to Debut runs deep, built on years of rehearsals, friendships, late nights, and unforgettable moments in the same spaces today’s students now fill with energy and creativity.

Advisory Board: Powering the Vision Behind the Curtain

While students and teachers focus on the studio and the stage, there’s a strong team working behind the scenes, helping shape Debut’s future –  the Debut Advisory Board. These dedicated individuals bring expertise in everything from finance and nonprofit consulting to construction, risk management, and foundation relationships. What unites them all? A shared passion for Debut and a deep belief in what this community makes possible.

Many board members are parents who have witnessed Debut’s impact firsthand. One is a Debut alum now watching their own child take the stage, offering a rare and meaningful multi-generational perspective. Another progressed through every level of Debut’s classes and now contributes professional insight from a successful career in finance. Together, the board blends firsthand experience with strategic leadership, ensuring Debut continues to grow—without ever losing sight of its mission.

Demolition Crew: All Hands on Deck

The theatre renovation itself has become a powerful show of community spirit. Parents, students, and siblings rolled up their sleeves and gave up weekends to remove chairs, haul furniture, scrape walls, and paint. It wasn’t easy work—but it was joyful work. They showed up not because they had to, but because they wanted to help build a space that has already given them so much.

Debut Theatre is more than the shows it produces—it’s a living, breathing community fueled by passion, generosity, and teamwork. The next time you take your seat at a performance, pause for a moment and think about the many hands, hearts, and hours working behind the curtain to make the magic happen.
