Selecting Your Troupe

Our classes offer a range of acting adventures for ages 6 to 17, beginner to advanced. Debut thrives on the ideas and imagination of new members as much as the experience and dedication of current members. Classes are considered experience appropriate as follows:

  • Beginner:Actors new to theatre or having minimal performing experience
  • Beginner/Intermediate:Actors with some on-stage performing experience & Debut students who are "moving up"
  • Intermediate: Previous shows with Debut and/or some on-stage performing experience
  • Intermediate/Advanced: Debut students who have gotten older & actors new to Debut with a similar company.
  • Advanced: For the actor who is dedicated to the serious commitment of theatre.

Story Playtime

Sydney proudly introduces her popular pre-school expression arts program to Debut. Be a part of this exciting inaugural semester. Students will play lots of fun theatre games and begin to learn how to use their faces and bodies to bring a story to life.
     Students will learn
  • confidence on stage
  • create a character
  • to work together as a cast to build teamwork skill

Little Theatre

Do you love to pretend? Are you crazy for costumes? Through theatre games, dance, and acting exercises, you'll learn to let your creative side go! If you're ready to be a part of theatre, this is your class! Our final performance will be a short play.
Students must be able to read to be in this class.

  • to memorize lines and perform on stage

Ages 8 to 10

First Stage

Performance: Friday, December 12, 6:30 p.m., Debut Theatre's Black Box Theatre 825 Riverside Ave.


In this class you'll discover which direction is "stage right" and what to do when the director says cheat out." You'll learn how to use your voice, your face and your body to bring characters to life! We will perform a one-act play for family and friends as our final performance.
     Students will learn
  • the basics of acting
  • the fundamentals of body movement, vocal control and theatre terminology
  • to create a character and work in ensemble

All the fun and learning of First Stage. Use your voice, your face and your body to make your character believable. Learn stage directions to help you become a better actor and in the end delight and entertain your family and friends with a one-act play.

Experience theatre through rehearsal, improvisation, theatre games and fun! Learn technical theatre "hands-on" by designing and creating a full production. A continuing education for young, excited actors!

  • what vital contributions each troupe member makes
  • script and character interpretation

Acting isn't just performing, it's the exercise of immersing so fully into a character that you discover yourself while playing someone else. Through exercises and games you will learn the secrets of bing a true performer.

Same class - different day, different show. Stage Two2 also gives students the tools they need to develop a character. Students learn through exercises and games how to be a true performer

Center Stage is for intermediate students ages 11 - 14 who have completed Stage Two. Students will continue to hone their theatre skills with games, improvisation and more in-depth, hands-on technical training.

  • to work within a troupe
  • to enjoy performing for yourself as well as for others

Being in plays from a variety of historical periods teaches new styles of acting and interpretation. Learn how historical periods influence theatrical styles and develop characters through the study of culture and society. Take a trip around the world studying classical theatre.
     Students will learn
  • various acting styles and theatre genres throughout history
  • to develop leadership skils through the many aspects of play production
  • classical acting techniques
  • to challenge our sensibilities and our artistic awareness

Act-Teen

Performance: Tuesday, December 16, 7:00 p.m., Lincoln Center mini-theatre, 417 W. Magnolia.


With an emphasis on acting technique, explore depth of expression within surreal and symbolic material. For the experienced and focused theatre student who is invigorated by extensive explorations in modern drama. This semester Act-Teen will be working from a script. Note: This troupe deals wiht some sensative issues.
     Students will learn
  • to tap into "sensory recall"
  • to present a multi-dimensional character
  • to delve into our emotions and how they relate to the stage
  • to discover playing the truth in a character, scene and play

Debut Players is the signature troupe of Debut Theatre Company, presenting public performances of classic literature. For the experienced, confident and committed theatre student, Players learn the design, construction and running of a semi-professional production.
